Ask Bob!
"Although they may be parted, there's still a chance that-they may see, there will be an answer, let it be..." - The Beatles - Ok, so this is part III and the final chapter of my anti-war series: As you may have guessed from the last column, I don't look forward to another war. And why shouldn't I be? Just look at the facts, President Bush wasn't so popular before 9-11, afterwards his popularity sky-rocketed. So it appears his popularity depends on him being a figure-head in the time of a crisis. Since no crisis exists, and the election is coming up soon, it appears that he is created a crisis; thereby, increasing his popularity. He is simply redirecting the public's fear of terrorists toward Iraq to support his war. Once the war gets going, terrorist attacks will increase - the public will turn to Bush for support and his popularity will sky-rocket again! Wow! What a great campaign tactic...and he won't be using any "soft-money" either. He'll just be using the lives of American teenagers. But wait that's not all! He'll be killing three birds with one stone! Since most front line soldiers (teenagers in uniforms) are low-income white people or just minorities, he'll be getting rid of American "undesirables" and getting rid of dark-skinned Middle Easterners, and getting himself re-elected. Three birds with just one un-justified war! Way-to-go, Georgie-boy! This war will increase terrorism in the United States and create even more anti-American sediments in the Middle East. No matter how much propaganda we dump on the Iraqis, none of them are going to see us as their saviors. They are gonna get pissed at the United States 'cause all their shit is gonna get blown up and nobody likes having their shit blown up. I know I don't. And as we know from the recent tape from Bin Laden, this is exactly what Al Quada wants, because it will bring more traditional Muslims to Al Quada, and with Saddam out of the way; Bin Laden will have more recruitment opportunities in Iraq. In case you forgot, this is exactly what I predicted last year. Interesting, if you think about it. President Bush and Bin Laden have the same objectives...to oust Saddam. Should we really be supporting the efforts of Al Quada, when they are the ones attacking the U.S.? I think it would be nice if our President thought less about his war-for-reelection, and thought more about protecting our borders...and the inside parts of the U.S. too. Now that we are closer to War (a situation created by Bush), the terrorist alert has been raised (because we are threatening the Middle East again). This raises fear in the American public and they; in turn, support the war. Now to make things even more complicated, it seems that this last alert was created from "false information." Seems fishy, that just before the war, the terrorists are too slow to act, so the administration "creates a threat" to help support our war efforts. Seems there is nothing this current administration won't do. So his plan works, because now he has a good shot to get re-elected. So either Bush is a power-hungry genius, or he's the biggest idiot the world has ever known. To be honest, I have trouble telling which may be the case. Now for the clincher - does Iraq have weapons of mass-destruction? Of course they do. Saddam's not fooling anyone. The question isn't, "do they have these weapons?", The question is, how do we react to this knowledge. Try to disarm them with the help of the United Nations should be the answer...so we have global support, not global condemnation. However, if they have these horrible weapons, why encourage them to use them? We are focusing on, "Finding the smoking gun." But what if he has created these weapons in self-defense? What if his only plan was to use them in case of an attack? And now if we attack, we would encourage him to use weapons that; otherwise, may never be used. We just assume that if he has these weapons, which I'm sure he does, then he plans to use them as an aggressor. But our reaction is based on the feeling of fear and fear alone. Currently there is no hard-core evidence. Sure it would be nice to go to sleep feeling nice and secure...but how many American children have to die to relieve our most current fear? And if this fear, this feeling, ever gets better...then what will the next fear be? How many children will it cost to keep us feeling secure when we go to bed each night? Remember, in reality, we will never actually be secure - we are fighting to support a feeling not a reality. If that's not enough there is more to this mess! Sure Iraq probably has some pretty nasty stuff, but nuclear weapons? Probably not. And they don't have the missile technology to deliver these types of weapons. Now Korea has nukes, but no missiles. But they are close friends with China, who has rockets that are good enough for them to start developing a space program. If Korea already has Chinese missiles, and nuclear weapons, and they think the U.S. sucks eggs...and they see us front a war, for no logical reason...Then what do you think they might do? Maybe, just maybe, they might takes sides with our enemy and provide weapons that we'll really need to worry about. Maybe, just maybe, the American public and the media should stop "goose-stepping" to the drums of violence and start thinking about the consequences of our actions on a global scale. Is this Anti-American talk? Of course not, I love the United States that same way I love all people ...this is why I am against starting World War Three. Am I reacting out of fear? Of course I am. You'd have to be nuts not to be afraid right now. My greatest fear is that Bush's politically driven aggression will increase terrorism and create a really nasty chain of events that I would just assume not see happen. What about Al Quada? They are Muslims that have lost their way. Remember Mohammed concluded that Christianity is, "not the way," because he felt God could not condone a religion that was responsible for so much violence (he lived during the crusades). He condemned Christianity for being the springboard of global war and violence. Ironically now his religion is doing the same thing. But what do I know? I'm just a beer-bellied drunk. I'm sure it's much more complicated. I'm just gonna have another beer and go to sleep with the rest of the country. And now you know! COMING NEXT: Back to the nonsense!
